Tata Motors has introduced the Altroz iCNG hatchback in India, priced at Rs 7.55 lakh (ex-showroom). This model stands out as the first CNG-powered hatchback to feature a sunroof, showcasing Tata’s new dual-cylinder setup for CNG tanks.

Visually, the Altroz iCNG bears a striking resemblance to its petrol-powered counterpart, with the only noticeable distinction being the addition of the ‘iCNG’ badge on the tailgate. To maximize boot space, Tata has positioned the two 30-litre CNG tanks beneath the boot floor. This design change allows for a 210-litre boot capacity, which is 135 litres less than the standard Altroz’s 345-litre boot.

Inside the cabin, minimal alterations have been made in comparison to the petrol Altroz. It retains the 7.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, along with features like an air purifier, wireless charger, and automatic headlamps. The notable addition is the inclusion of a voice-activated, single-pane sunroof on select trims, namely the XM+ (S), XZ+ (S), and XZ+ O (S).

Under the hood, the Altroz iCNG is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. In petrol mode, it generates 88hp and 115Nm of torque, while in CNG mode, the output decreases to 77hp and 103Nm of torque. Notably, the Altroz can start directly in CNG mode, distinguishing it from its rivals, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG and Toyota Glanza CNG, which produce similar power but lower torque in their CNG modes.
