Volkswagen has a reputation of building some state-of-the-art cars. In addition, their typical German build has found numerous buyers all over the world and also in India.

Recently, we got to experience the Tiguan in conditions which one doesn’t usually encounter. We took the Tiguan over surfaces and obstacles to which generally full-fledged 4×4 vehicles are subjected to.

The Volkswagen Tiguan is quite an unassuming SUV. It looks simplistic, offers good space, comfort and can be a great family car or SUV. But little did we know what more it has to offer.

Our day started on a specially curated track which had numerous obstacles. The first was a steep climb, which the Tiguan tackled with ease. Now, the Tiguan is equipped with Hill Hold function, which engaged automatically, but this feature holds the car for 7 seconds after you have stepped off the brakes. Additionally, there is an Auto Hold function, to be engaged manually, which holds the vehicle in place till you press the throttle.

While coming down, the Hill Descent Control engages automatically by sensing the angle of the vehicle and guides you out flawlessly, without using the brakes.

The Tiguan come with All Wheel Drive and it works flawlessly. I entered a deep ditch with ease, thanks to the Hill Descent Control and climbed out effortlessly.

There was another obstacle which was based on vehicle articulation. The see-saw that the Tiguan did in this section was worth experiencing. It also showcased the built quality of the car, which could take such stresses on its body and not complain.

The DNA of the Tiguan stresses on safety and longevity, which was felt while encountering this section. When the vehicle see-sawed from one side to the other, it felt strong and rigid, one that can take a lot of beating without complaining.

With a ground clearance of 200 mm, water wading was quite easy and our regular water logged roads pose no threat to the Tiguan.

It was quite fun to have experienced the Volkwagen Tiguan in conditions which you do not come across in your daily driving. Interesting to note that the Tiguan is engineered to take a lot into its stride, safety being one key highlights of this SUV. It comes with six airbags as standard, has ABS and electronic stability control and the overall build is strong, making it an ideal family vehicle.

The Volkswagen Tiguan is positioned in the premium SUV segment in India and has little competiton there. It comes with a punchy 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine with 190PS of power and 320Nm of torque. If you plan to buy a premium SUV, the Volkswagen Tiguan definitely is one you cannot miss.
