The eagerly awaited Jimny 5-door SUV is now being produced in series at Maruti Suzuki’s plant in Gurugram. The car has already taken 25,000 reservations since its global premiere and is slated to go on sale in India next month. There are four Jimny variants, and Maruti Suzuki is anticipated to prioritise producing the top-tier Alpha trim. According to dealers, the Jimny’s most popular colour choices are Bluish Black, Kinetic Yellow, and Pearl Arctic White.
Aiming to produce 1 lakh Jimny units annually, 66% of which would be sold domestically and the remaining units will be exported. Every month, the company intends to set aside about 7,000 units for the Indian market. The Jimny has a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with 105hp that may be mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque-converter automatic transmission.
The vehicle features Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD with a manual transfer case and a low-range gearbox, with ‘2WD-high,’ ‘4WD-high,’ and ‘4WD-low’ modes. The Jimny is a cost-effective off-road SUV, with a projected ex-showroom price range of Rs 10 lakh–12 lakh. The Mahindra Thar and the Force Gurkha, two SUVs renowned for their tough exteriors and off-road skills, will be competitors of the SUV.
