Maruti Suzuki is set to launch a new MPV on July 5, 2023, which is being developed in collaboration with Toyota. The MPV will be a sister model to the well-known Innova Hycross but will feature distinct styling cues to differentiate it from the Toyota MPV.

This premium MPV from Maruti will be their most expensive model and is expected to come with a robust hybrid powertrain. To set it apart from the Toyota counterpart, the Maruti MPV will showcase unique design elements. Leaked design patents reveal a fresh grille with a honeycomb mesh pattern and chrome trim, along with two horizontal chrome bars connecting the headlamps. The front bumper will also receive modifications, including a prominent lip with a faux brushed aluminum finish resembling a skid plate. Minor changes are expected for the rear bumper as well.

While the overall shape of the headlamps and tail lamps will remain similar, the internals and graphics will be distinct. The Maruti MPV is likely to incorporate the brand’s signature ‘three dots’ LED daytime running lights, similar to the Grand Vitara and Baleno, aligning it with other Nexa products.

Underneath, the new Maruti MPV will utilize the Toyota TNGA-C platform and be powered by the naturally aspirated petrol and strong-hybrid petrol engines found in the Innova Hycross.

This upcoming MPV marks the first instance of a Toyota product being rebadged for Maruti Suzuki. Previously, Suzuki-built vehicles like the Vitara Brezza and Baleno were cross-badged as the Toyota Urban Cruiser and Glanza, respectively. In this case, Toyota will manufacture the MPV at its Bidadi plant and supply it to Maruti.

It remains to be seen how many units of the MPV Toyota can provide to Maruti, considering the high demand and long waiting period for the Innova Hycross.
