Mercedes-Benz has introduced the updated G-Class lineup in India, with the G 400d replacing the previous G 350d model. The 2023 Mercedes G 400d has a starting price of Rs 2.55 crore (ex-showroom), which is Rs 83 lakh more than its predecessor. Bookings for the G 400d are now open at Rs 1.5 lakh. Mercedes aims to cater to the luxury vehicle segment in India with this top-end offering.

G400d

The G 400d is equipped with a 3.0-litre, OM656, in-line six-cylinder diesel engine that produces 330hp and 700Nm of torque, compared to the 286hp and 600Nm of the outgoing G 350d. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 9-speed automatic transmission, allowing the G 400d to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 6.4 seconds, one second faster than its predecessor. It retains the traditional ladder-frame construction and features the G-Mode for off-road driving, along with a ground clearance of 241mm and water wading capability of up to 700mm.

G400d

The G 400d is available in two versions in India, both priced at Rs 2.55 crore (ex-showroom). In addition to the AMG Line, Mercedes has introduced the G 400d Adventure Edition, specifically tailored for the Indian market. It offers four exterior paint shade options from the G Manufaktur special options range. The Adventure Edition comes with 18-inch silver alloy wheels, a roof rack, a spare-wheel holder, a removable ladder, and other features.

The G 400d AMG Line showcases AMG styling cues, 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, a sliding sunroof, a Burmester sound system, and 64-color ambient lighting, among other highlights.

G400d

Deliveries of the G 400d are expected to begin in the last quarter of this year, with existing Mercedes-Benz customers given priority. The G 400d will compete with popular models like the Land Rover Defender and the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 in the Indian market.
