A lot has been speculated about the Suzuki Jimny, especially its India launch, since the last few years. In the Auto Expo last year, Maruti Suzuki had showcased the Jimny. This had further raised curiosity about an Indian launch. The Jimny Sierra version was displayed at the exposition as Maruti Suzuki is manufacturing the 3-door version currently. It is being exported to overseas markets.
India is a country where 3-door version cars do not find many buyers, hence the plan to launch Jimny in India was kept on hold. There have been reports of a 5-door version of the Jimny, launching soon. It was slated for being unveiled this year, however, due to the pandemic, the debut has been postponed to next year. The 5-door Suzuki Jimny shall be based on the Sierra version and will be manufactured in India. Maruti is looking at launching this SUV after its global debut.

A manual and automatic gearbox is expected to be offered, as also 4WD.
