Citroen made its entry into India with the C5 Aircross SUV this year. While this SUV has been impressive on most counts, it is not likely to be a volume driver, owing to its pricing. The C5 comes to India as a CKD unit and is assembled here.
Citroen is betting on its next product, which shall be the C3 compact SUV. The C3 has been very successful globally, selling over 4 million units, worldwide and is amongst the top selling vehicles in Europe. This might be a driver for Citroen to consider it for the Indian market, given the preference for small SUVs here. The French marquee that is a part of the Stellantis group, has its facility in Tamil Nadu. Citroen also rolled out C-Cube program and has plans to launch one model every year in India.
The C3 has been spotted testing on Indian roads as well. When launched, it will compete with the likes of Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger. The C3 shall be made on the CMP (Common Modular Platform) of the company. The same platform shall also be shared for new products from Jeep, part of the Stellantis group.
The Citroen C3 compact SUV shall be powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which with about 120bhp of power. A 5-speed gearbox alongwith an automatic transmission is likely to be mated to the engine.
The interiors of the Citroen C3 will have similar design cues like the C5 Aircross. A chic looking cabin with a very European feel shall be offered. A large touchscreen infotainment system along with Apple Car Play and Android Auto shall do duty here. It is expected to get comfortable seats and good space for rear passengers.
