Maruti Suzuki has introduced the CNG variant of its Fronx coupe crossover, available in two trims – Sigma and Delta. The CNG version is exclusively offered with the 1.2-litre petrol engine and comes at a premium of Rs 95,000 over the corresponding petrol trims. The prices start at Rs 8.42 lakh for the Sigma trim and go up to Rs 9.28 lakh for the Delta trim.
Powering the Fronx CNG is the same 1.2-litre petrol engine found in other Maruti CNG models. It is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox and delivers 90hp and 113Nm of torque in petrol mode. However, in CNG mode, the power output decreases to 77.5hp and 98.5Nm of torque. Maruti Suzuki claims a fuel efficiency of 28.51 km/kg for the Fronx CNG.
In terms of design, there are no visual distinctions between the CNG and petrol versions of the Fronx, although the CNG tank compromises the boot space. The interior features a black and brown color scheme and offers a 7.0-inch touchscreen with SmartPlay Pro system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, steering-mounted controls, automatic climate control, dual airbags, and reverse parking sensors.
In the compact SUV segment, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx CNG competes with the likes of Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, and Mahindra XUV300. Notably, it is one of the few compact SUVs to come with a factory-fitted CNG kit, along with the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG.
