At the Mahindra Futurescape event in Cape Town, South Africa, the spotlight was initially on the Thar.e concept and the Scorpio-N-based Global Pik Up concept. However, the manufacturer also offered a glimpse of its upcoming electric SUV, the BE.05, which is expected to be launched by October 2025.

The BE.05 electric SUV will feature a spacious panoramic glass roof and will be available in both 2WD and 4WD versions. The teaser showcased the vehicle in a nearly production-ready form. The teaser images highlighted the sculpted bonnet, steeply raked front windshield, and a split roof-mounted spoiler with an integrated LED lightbar on the tailgate. The interior glimpse revealed a driver-focused design with dual screens for infotainment and instrument cluster, similar to the concept.

The BE.05 will be built on Mahindra’s INGLO platform and will come with the choice of 2WD and 4WD powertrains. The electric motors will be sourced from Volkswagen. The 2WD models will have a rear-mounted motor generating 210kW (286hp) and 535Nm, while the 4WD models will add a front axle motor producing 80kW (109hp) and 135Nm. However, the combined system output has not been disclosed yet. The powertrains are currently in testing.

For the battery, the BE.05 will utilize a 79kWh unit with LFP cells, in contrast to the XUV400’s NMC-chemistry. These LFP cells boast higher energy density, slower discharge rates, lack of thermal propagation, and 30-minute charging times for 0-80 percent.

Upon its launch in October 2025, the Mahindra BE.05 SUV will occupy a position above the XUV400 EV and will directly compete with the Tata Curvv EV, set to be available in 2024.
