Jaguar has taken a bold step into its next-generation electric era with the public showcase of the Type 01 prototype at the iconic Monaco circuit ahead of the Formula E Monaco E-Prix on May 16. The dramatic prototype appearance previews Jaguar’s upcoming luxury four-door electric GT, set for a global reveal later this year.

Wrapped in a striking camouflage design inspired by Jaguar’s evolving brand identity, the Type 01 prototype made its way through Monaco’s legendary streets including Sainte-Dévote, Casino Square, and La Rascasse. The artistic wrap combines Jaguar’s signature strikethrough motif with monolithic circular and linear graphics, finished in vibrant brand colours to create a futuristic visual statement.

Monaco also represents an important chapter in Jaguar’s motorsport history, with the brand continuing its Formula E success through Jaguar TCS Racing, including a victory in the principality during the 2024 Formula E season.

Jaguar says the Type 01 has directly benefited from Formula E-derived technology and engineering expertise developed by its championship-winning all-electric racing team. The luxury GT features advanced all-wheel-drive control software, fast-switching silicon carbide-powered inverters, and enhanced regenerative braking systems inspired by race-proven EV technology.

According to Jaguar, these systems have helped deliver instinctive driving dynamics, refined composure, rapid charging capability, and improved efficiency for the upcoming electric grand tourer.

Rawdon Glover, Managing Director of Jaguar, said, “To achieve our vision for Type 01, we not only harnessed our Formula E know-how but also embedded the competition mindset of Jaguar TCS Racing in our engineering teams. This helped us develop innovative solutions for our luxury four-door GT that drives like no other electric car.”

The Type 01 name carries significant meaning for the British marque. The ‘Type’ naming tradition dates back to Jaguar’s legendary C-type race car from 1951 and later iconic road cars such as the E-type and F-TYPE. In the new naming structure, the ‘0’ represents zero tailpipe emissions and electric propulsion, while the ‘1’ signifies the beginning of Jaguar’s new era of electric mobility.

The upcoming Jaguar Type 01 will be designed, developed, and built in the UK, forming the foundation for Jaguar’s future line-up of premium electric vehicles. Jaguar promises the new four-door GT will blend powerful performance with luxury comfort, staying true to the brand’s heritage while embracing a fully electric future.
