In a significant push toward sustainable last-mile mobility, Hyundai Motor Company has entered into a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) with TVS Motor Company to co-develop electric three-wheelers (E3W) tailored for the Indian market.

The collaboration follows the successful showcase of an E3W concept at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 and marks a transition from concept stage to production-ready development. The partnership aims to address India’s growing demand for efficient, affordable and eco-friendly last-mile transport solutions.

Under the agreement, Hyundai will lead design and co-development, leveraging its global R&D capabilities and human-centric design philosophy. Meanwhile, TVS Motor will contribute its expertise in electric mobility platforms and three-wheeler engineering, while also spearheading manufacturing, sales and distribution from India.

The upcoming E3W is being engineered specifically for Indian conditions, with features such as adaptive ground clearance for monsoon-affected roads, improved thermal management for tropical climates, and flexible interior layouts suited for both passenger and cargo applications.

A strong focus on localization forms a key pillar of this partnership. Both companies plan to source and manufacture major components within India, strengthening the domestic supply chain, reducing costs and improving serviceability for customers.

The move also underlines India’s importance as the world’s largest three-wheeler market, with both companies targeting not just domestic demand but potential export opportunities as well.

With dedicated teams already in place, the project will now move into advanced development, testing and regulatory approvals. The first product under this collaboration is expected to set new benchmarks in technology, safety and affordability in the electric three-wheeler segment.
