Scorpio has been the king of the segment since its launch back in 2002. It was leading in terms of sales and every other aspect.

It was the first Body On Frame SUV that was launched at such a low price which could offer all the rugged feel for off-roading at a very less sum of money at that time. It could be said that Scorpio was the car that created its segment.

In spite of being this old, it hasn’t received a huge generation lift yet, however, it has received repeated minor facelifts which have made it look a lot better than the 1st ever Scorpio.

In 2020, Mahindra is finally planning to give it a huge generation change. The new-gen Scorpio will be based on a completely new platform having bigger dimensions. It looks a lot more premium, longer and wider. Though only

the highly camouflaged units are spied testing, it is quite evident that its design is inspired by its elder sibling Alturas G4.

The entry-level 7 seat SUV from the manufacturer will get swept-back headlights, X-section bumper, and chrome infused vertical slat grille. The spy shots have already revealed that the new Scorpio will have an inclined windscreen, as against a straighter design of the current model, inspired by the premium Alturas G4.

The larger dimensions also mean that there will be increased space in all the rows. Inside the cabin also, premium touch is expected. It is designed at the Mahindra North American Technical Center (MNATC).

The 2020 Scorpio will get a 2.0l BS-VI compliant engine which is expected to produce the same or similar power figures and also pollute less. The outgoing model gets a 2.2l mHawk engine that gives out 160PS of power and 400NM of torque mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

It is expected to launch at a price tag of 10-13 lacs. It doesn’t have direct competition in the market at this price point.
