Toyota has unveiled the second-generation C-HR, a stylish crossover, with the aim of attracting new customers by introducing a plug-in hybrid powertrain option. The production car showcases the radical design of the C-HR Prologue concept, featuring three powertrain options – a 2.0 litre plug-in hybrid, a 2.o litre parallel hybrid, and a 1.8 litre parallel hybrid. The plug-in hybrid variant includes geofencing technology that automatically switches to EV mode in low-emission zones if the battery has sufficient power.
The interior of the new C-HR focuses on luxurious materials and advanced technologies. Higher trim levels offer a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while the base models come with an 8.0-inch touchscreen. Toyota has not yet provided specific power and range figures, as the performance data is provisional until homologation closer to the launch date.
Regarding Toyota’s plans for India, although the C-HR was tested in the country in 2018, it did not make it to the Indian market. Currently, Toyota offers hybrid powertrain options for the Urban Cruiser, Innova, and Camry models in India. There are rumors of Toyota introducing a flex-fuel sedan in the future, and the company has been exploring alternative fuel options.
