Tata Motors has introduced the Punch CNG, starting at Rs 7.10 lakh and reaching up to Rs 9.68 lakh for the highest variant (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Punch CNG is accessible in three trims: Pure, Adventure, and Accomplished, with the latter two also presenting optional packages similar to the regular Punch. Notably, the top-tier Creative trim does not offer the CNG kit. This new model joins Tata’s existing CNG lineup comprising the Tiago, Tigor, and Altroz.

Available in Pure, Adventure, and Accomplished trims, the Punch CNG rivals the Hyundai Exter CNG. The vehicle employs the same 1.2-liter, three-cylinder engine featured in the petrol-powered Punch. This engine delivers 86hp and 113Nm of torque with petrol, and when using CNG, it generates 73.4hp and 103Nm of peak torque. The CNG variant is exclusively available with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Notably, the Punch can be started directly in CNG mode, setting it apart from offerings by Maruti and Hyundai.

The Punch CNG incorporates Tata Motors’ dual-cylinder arrangement, similar to the Altroz CNG. This configuration divides a large 60-liter tank into two smaller tanks, located beneath the boot floor to optimize storage. The CNG variant provides a boot capacity of 210 liters, a reduction of 156 liters compared to the petrol-powered Punch.

Externally, the Punch CNG maintains the same design, featuring only the addition of the ‘iCNG’ badge on the tailgate, in line with other Tata CNG models. The interior also remains mostly unchanged. In the top-spec version, the Punch CNG is equipped with features like a 7.0-inch touchscreen, digital driver’s display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, 16-inch alloy wheels, engine start/stop button, automatic climate control, automatic projector headlamps, height-adjustable driver’s seat, and even a sunroof, a feature now introduced to the petrol-powered Punch as well.

The Punch CNG targets direct competition with the recently launched Hyundai Exter, which debuted with a CNG powertrain. The Exter’s pricing falls between Rs 8.24 lakh and Rs 8.97 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
