Land Rover has unveiled the new Range Rover Sport SV, the most powerful and fastest SUV produced by the company. The vehicle, developed by Land Rover’s Special Vehicles team, features a 4.4-litre V8 engine sourced from BMW, producing 635hp and 800Nm of torque. It is a mild hybrid with twin-turbocharging. With these specifications, the SV surpasses its predecessor, the SVR, which had a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine and 575hp. The Range Rover Sport SV can accelerate from 0 to 96kph in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 290kph. It is equipped with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive.
The SV model, based on the latest Range Rover Sport, boasts several design enhancements, including wider front and rear tracks, a revised front bumper and grille, side skirts, and a rear bumper with four round exhausts. The new front treatment addresses the increased cooling requirements of the V8 engine. Carbon-ceramic brakes with eight-piston calipers and 23-inch carbon fibre wheels are available as optional extras.
The chassis has been modified for the SV, with a 10mm lower ride height and a linked hydraulic system that reduces pitch and roll movements. The SV features an active 48V mechanical anti-roll bar system capable of delivering 2,300Nm of roll control and 4,000Nm of pitch control. The car can achieve lateral forces of 1.1g while maintaining minimal lean.
Inside the vehicle, there are new seats with integrated head restraints, available in leather or technical fabric. The steering wheel has a smaller size and thicker rim, featuring an SV button for activating the SV or personalized drive mode. Optional transducers in the back of the front seats provide a unique audio experience by transmitting music through vibrations.
The Range Rover Sport SV will be one of Land Rover’s final new combustion cars, as the company plans to introduce an electric version of the Range Rover next year, followed by electric versions of the Discovery Sport, Range Rover Sport, Evoque, and Velar from 2025. The first year of production, including the exclusive Edition 1 models, is already sold out, and deliveries will begin before the end of this year.
