The fifth-generation Hyundai Santa Fe has officially been unveiled following an early leak of its images. Hyundai describes the new Santa Fe as its most versatile family SUV, featuring a boxy design aimed at the off-road “lifestyle” market.
Compared to its predecessor, the new Santa Fe boasts a longer wheelbase, offering class-leading interior space. The design has been completely overhauled, moving away from the previous model’s curvy lines in favor of a more rugged appearance with clean-cut edges and wide wheel arches, resembling Land Rover and Jeep 4x4s. This design approach aligns with Hyundai’s recent models like the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6.
The interior of the new Santa Fe emphasizes practicality and usability, featuring physical buttons and dials for essential functions, numerous USB ports and wireless charging pads, and ample storage compartments and cupholders. The infotainment system comprises a curved 12.3-inch touchscreen and a digital instrument display of the same size. Hyundai has also incorporated sustainable materials, such as recycled plastics, for components like the headliner, mats, and seatbacks.
While specific powertrain details have not been officially disclosed, insider sources suggest that the new Santa Fe will offer the current model’s turbocharged 2.5-liter petrol engine and a 1.6-litre gasoline direct injection turbo, depending on the market. It is expected to be available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, with a plug-in hybrid option also likely.
Although the Santa Fe was previously available in India during its second and third generations, there is no information regarding the fifth-generation model’s availability in the Indian market. The Tucson continues to be Hyundai’s flagship model in India.
