With a starting price of Rs 48.90 lakh (ex-showroom) BMW has launched the X1 sDrive 18i M Sport trim in India. This new model shares its powertrain and the majority of its equipment with the xLine trim. But it also has a few extra features, like active seat adjustment for the front passengers and a Harman Kardon-tuned audio system.
The M Sport-specific body package on the new model is the key distinction between the two X1 sDrive 18i trims. This includes M-specific front and rear bumpers, gloss black kidney grille slats, and M-specific 18-inch alloy wheels. Additionally, it has roof rails and window surrounds that are blacked out. Storm Bay Grey and M Portimao Blue are the hues offered with the M Sport trim.
The M Sport trim, which was previously exclusively offered on the diesel X1, is now available on the petrol X1 as well. While the petrol X1 is offered in both the xLine and M Sport trims, the diesel X1 only comes in the M Sport trim.
The X1 sDrive 18i M Sport’s interior features an anthracite headlining and a M Sport steering wheel with shift paddles. Additionally, it provides rear seat adjustments up to 130mm and electrical seat adjustments for the front passengers.
Over the xLine trim, the M Sport trim adds a 12-speaker Harmon Kardon-tuned audio system. However, both variants have similar features like a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen running the iDrive 8 operating system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and wireless charging.
A 1.5-litre, three-cylinder engine with 136 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque powers both sDrive 18i models. It propels the front wheels and is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. BMW claims that the petrol X1 can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 9.2 seconds and achieve 16.13 kpl in terms of fuel efficiency.
In the Indian market, the BMW X1 has competition from various entry-level luxury SUVs including the Mercedes-Benz GLA, Audi Q3, Volvo XC40, and Mini Countryman.
