VinFast Inaugurates First Overseas EV Assembly Plant in Tamil Nadu, Targeting 50,000 Units Annually

VinFast has officially opened its electric vehicle (EV) assembly plant at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, marking its first operational facility outside Vietnam and a pivotal step in its global expansion strategy.

Spread across 400 acres, VinFast Tamil Nadu is the brand’s third operational plant and the fifth in its global manufacturing network. Equipped with advanced automation and world-class production lines, the complex houses a Body Shop, Paint Shop, Assembly Shop, Quality Control Center, and Logistics Hub, along with an auxiliary cluster for local suppliers.

In its initial phase, the facility will assemble the VF 7 and VF 6 premium electric SUVs, with a starting capacity of 50,000 units annually, scalable to 150,000 units. Once fully operational, the plant will generate 3,000–3,500 direct jobs and thousands of indirect jobs, bolstering Tamil Nadu’s position as a potential EV manufacturing hub for South Asia.

Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, said, “The Tamil Nadu plant is a strategic milestone in our commitment to India, setting the stage to supply high-quality, competitively priced EVs while developing the region into our largest export hub for South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.”

Beyond production, VinFast is building a comprehensive EV ecosystem in India, including partnerships for distribution, after-sales service, charging infrastructure, and battery recycling, supporting the nation’s green mobility goals and the brand’s target of 1 million vehicles annually by 2030.
