TVS Motor Company has expanded its electric scooter portfolio with the launch of the new TVS Orbiter V1, positioned as the brand’s most affordable electric scooter. Alongside the new model, the company has also introduced its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership model across its EV range, aimed at reducing upfront purchase costs.

With the BaaS model, the TVS EV range now starts from ₹49,999 (ex-showroom, Delhi), including government incentives. Customers who prefer full ownership without the subscription model can purchase the Orbiter V1 at ₹84,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

TVS Orbiter V1: Built for Practical Urban Commuting

The TVS Orbiter V1 comes equipped with a 1.8 kWh battery pack and is designed primarily for daily city usage. The Orbiter lineup now consists of two variants – the V1 with a 1.8 kWh battery and the higher-spec V2 featuring a 3.1 kWh battery.

TVS claims an IDC-certified range of 86km for the V1, while charging from 0 to 80 percent takes approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes, making it suitable for everyday urban mobility needs.

Feature highlights include:

  • Connected smartphone application

  • LED headlamp with visor

  • Colour LCD instrument cluster

  • Incoming call alerts

  • OTA (over-the-air) updates

  • Turn-by-turn navigation

Practical Design Focus

The Orbiter V1 follows a functional design approach focused on comfort and usability. It features an 845mm long flat seat, intended to improve comfort for both rider and pillion. The 290mm flat floorboard offers generous legroom, while the upright handlebar aims to provide a relaxed riding posture.

Adding to practicality is a 34-litre under-seat storage compartment, which TVS claims is large enough to accommodate two helmets.

Technology and Safety Features

TVS has equipped the Orbiter V1 with several connected and safety features to enhance the ownership experience.

Key technology features include:

  • Geo-fencing and anti-theft alerts

  • Crash and fall notifications

  • Remote battery status monitoring

  • Navigation support

  • Call and SMS notifications

  • Hill Hold Assist

  • Cruise Control

  • Parking Assist

  • Eco and Power ride modes

  • Regenerative braking

Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) Explained

A major highlight of the launch is the introduction of Battery-as-a-Service, which separates the battery cost from the scooter price. This allows buyers to pay a lower upfront amount while subscribing to battery usage through monthly plans.

Key BaaS benefits include:

  • Starting price from ₹49,999

  • Subscription plans from ₹862 per month

  • Extended warranty up to 5 years or 70,000 km

  • Unlimited usage plans depending on subscription

  • Battery assurance during the tenure

TVS says this approach improves affordability while also providing better clarity on EV running costs.

Gaurav Gupta, President – India 2W Business, TVS Motor Company, said the Orbiter V1 strengthens the company’s EV strategy by offering a more accessible entry point into electric mobility, while the BaaS model introduces flexibility in ownership.

Aniruddha Haldar, Senior Vice President – Head Commuter & EV Business, added that customer response to the Orbiter V2 encouraged the company to further expand the range with a more affordable variant to accelerate EV adoption.

With the Orbiter V1 and the introduction of flexible ownership models, TVS is clearly targeting mass adoption in the entry-level electric scooter segment. As competition intensifies in India’s EV space, affordability and practical ownership solutions like BaaS could play a crucial role in driving wider adoption.
