Ather Energy Hosts ByteBattles 2.0: A National Firmware Challenge Focused on Two-Wheeler Safety

Ather Energy Limited recently hosted ByteBattles 2.0, the second edition of its all-India firmware development hackathon. Focused on electric two-wheeler safety, the event was powered by sponsors like Qualcomm, Elektrobit, NXP, and Infineon.

Held on April 5–6 at Ather’s Bengaluru HQ, ByteBattles 2.0 challenged participants to build safety-focused embedded solutions using Ather’s in-house ASDK (Ather Software Development Kit). This API-based kit accelerates firmware development for motor control, battery protection, regenerative braking, and more.

Out of 179 teams and 722 participants from institutes like IIT-M, IISC, and NITs, and companies such as Zoom, Stellantis, and Capgemini, 12 teams qualified for the final 30-hour hackathon. They built real-world firmware solutions including obstacle detection, terrain analysis, and vehicle control.

A highlight of the event was a panel discussion featuring top industry leaders from Infineon, Google, Elektrobit, NXP, Qualcomm, and Ather, exploring how smart hardware-software integration and cloud computing can redefine ride safety.

Ather’s CTO Swapnil Jain emphasized, “Safety today is equally about intelligent software. ByteBattles 2.0 was designed to encourage innovation and hands-on problem-solving in vehicle firmware.”

Ather also showcased safety innovations in its scooters, including multi-mode traction control, SkidControl™, FallSafe™, Emergency Stop Signal, and Live Location Sharing, reinforcing its commitment to rider safety.

With a ₹2 lakh prize pool, ByteBattles 2.0 fostered collaboration and pushed the boundaries of what’s possible in two-wheeler firmware innovation.
