Tesla Cybertruck Debuts with Radical Design and High Performance

After a four-year wait since its initial reveal, Tesla’s highly anticipated Cybertruck has made its debut, with the first 10 units handed over to customers in North America. Weighing over three tonnes, the electric pickup features radical prismatic bodywork claimed to be bulletproof and is available with up to 856 horsepower.

During a special delivery event, Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, expressed his enthusiasm, declaring the Cybertruck as their best product and a unique addition to the road, shaping the future. Originally slated for deliveries in 2021, production only commenced in July, and Tesla is currently accepting reservation deposits of $100.

The divisive design of the Cybertruck offers two powertrain options: an 856hp tri-motor setup derived from the Tesla Model S Plaid and a base-level twin-motor powertrain with 608hp. The single-motor model is expected in 2025. Prices range from $79,990 to $99,990 for the launch editions.

In terms of performance, the top-spec Cybertruck can accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 2.6 seconds, with a claimed range of 547km. The truck’s body, made of a Tesla-designed stainless steel alloy, is allegedly bulletproof and provides more torsional stiffness than a McLaren P1.

Highlighting its utility, the Cybertruck boasts a payload capacity of 1,134kg in the covered rear load bay, a ‘frunk,’ and sail pillars, along with a maximum towing capacity of 5,000kg. The body’s construction focuses on a Tesla-developed alloy to eliminate corrosion and the need for paint.

Musk emphasized the off-road capabilities, citing 17 inches of ground clearance, 35-inch all-terrain tires, adaptive air suspension, and locking differentials. The Cybertruck features steer-by-wire technology, offering a smaller turning circle than the Model S.

Regarding Tesla’s entry into the Indian market, recent reports suggest a potential official entry in the coming year. While initial sales may involve fully imported vehicles, there are discussions about establishing a manufacturing plant in India by 2026, pending an agreement between the Indian government and Tesla.
