Tata Motors has further enlarged its footprint in the electric mobility space, with its all-new Nexon EV. Tata officials said that they would be launching Nexon EV in the last quarter of FY2019-20, this means it would be reaching the masses as early as Feb-Mar 2020, making it the first EV in the segment.

Nexon EV will be powered by the Ziptron Technology unveiled by Tata recently. Though official figures about output and range are not revealed, it is expected to give a range of around 300KM on a single charge. It is also said that the batteries would be cased in high strength steel with an IP67 rating ensuring dust and waterproofing.
Climate changes significantly affect the performance of batteries thereby also reducing output and range at times. However, Ziptron Technology has been developed keeping in mind the typical climate and traffic conditions in India. Tata has tested its Nexon EV in the harshest weather conditions on the Leh-Manali route. This also explains that it offers quite good performance as it has already conquered the toughest terrains of India in the great Himalayas.
Tata says, a team of 350 engineers have worked on the project and surpassed over 1 million kilometers of testing successfully. It offers a high-voltage 300V-plus permanent magnet synchronous electric motor that ensures much better performance compared to the Tigor EV that was powered by a 72V motor. This motor comes mated to a single ratio transmission optimized specially for Indian conditions. It will also get drive modes allowing the driver to Maximize Range or Performance. It also offers fast charging that lets you charge the vehicle in much lesser time.
