MG ASTOR a petrol iteration of the MG ZS petrol. The SUV will sit below MG Hector in competition to Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos.

MG Motors has confirmed the launch of MG ZS petrol which has been registered for the trademark in the name MG ASTOR. MG Motor will roll out this SUV in coming months.

This SUV will sit below the Hector in MG Motor lineup and will compete with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and upcoming Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.

Visually MG Astor would look bit different than MG ZS Petrol version. Design changes would include sharper headlights with LED DRLs, revised front look, more prominent front grille and newly designed alloy wheels.

Although official specifications and details have not been revealed yet, it’s reported that MG Astor would be more powerful than Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. It is expected to have 2 engine options, naturally aspirated and turbocharged. Naturally aspirated variant will have 1.5L engine capacity producing 120bhp and 150nm of torque whereas turbocharged variant will have 1.3L of engine capacity producing 163bhp and 250nm of torque. Compared to Creta and Seltos, MG Astor would produce 5bhp and 25nm of torque more than its competition.

MG Astor is expected to have Level 1 autonomous technology – ADAS. Features include a panoramic sunroof, 360 deg camera, powered driver’s seat, a huge infotainment system, apple carplay, android auto, cruise control etc.

Prices have not been revealed yet but it is expected to be priced quite competitively. The wait is worth a while as more than two compact SUV are under the line – Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.
