Lexus has disclosed initial details about the upcoming second-generation LM MPV in India, a counterpart to the Toyota Vellfire. Bookings have commenced, marking the first appearance of the LM in India, whereas its first-gen version was exclusively available in China.
The Lexus LM comes with options for 4- and 7-seater arrangements and is propelled by a petrol-hybrid powertrain. Bookings are open at select Lexus Experience Centres and Meraki showrooms. Built upon Toyota’s GA-K modular platform, the new LM exhibits a distinct design featuring the latest rendition of Lexus’ prominent grille, sleek LED headlights, and vertically styled fog lamp housings in a satin silver finish. Its profile showcases a sizable glass area with a subtle bend at the B-pillar and subtle creases along the body, reducing its flat-sided appearance. The back of the vehicle has a simple design, highlighted primarily by a boomerang-shaped LED light bar.
In terms of dimensions, the LM stretches 5,130mm in length, 1,890mm in width, and 1,945mm in height. The vehicle is equipped with sliding doors on both sides and is supported by either 17-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels.
Lexus will provide the LM in two configurations for the Indian market: a 4-seater version that features a partition between the front and rear sections, luxurious reclining seats akin to airline seats, a large 48-inch TV, an impressive 23-speaker surround sound system, and comfortable pillow-style headrests. Passengers enjoy various amenities such as fold-out tables, heated armrests, USB ports, wireless phone chargers, reading lights, a fridge, and more.
Additionally, a new voice control system specifically tailored for rear passengers is introduced, along with an overhead console managing doors, storage, and cabin temperature. Rear passengers have their own control panel for climate, seat functions, interior lighting, window blinds, and audio settings.
The LM emphasizes sound insulation, utilizing specialized materials in its headliner, noise-reducing wheels, and active noise control via microphones while driving. For drivers, there’s a digital rear-view mirror, panoramic-view monitor, digital infotainment, and a suite of ADAS features.
Internationally, the LM (350h) is driven by a 2.5-litre self-charging hybrid engine, generating 250hp and 239Nm. A more powerful LM500h variant will later join the lineup, featuring a 2.4-litre turbo-hybrid engine. While the exact powertrain for the Indian LM hasn’t been specified, it’s likely to mirror the 350h version.
In the luxury MPV category, the upcoming Lexus LM, along with the Toyota Vellfire, occupy a unique niche. Given that the Vellfire’s price ranges from Rs 1.20 crore to 1.30 crore (ex-showroom), the LM’s price is expected to surpass that range.
