
Ashok Leyland, the flagship company of the Hinduja Group and one of India’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, has announced a significant order from the Tamil Nadu State Transport Undertakings (TNSTU) for 1,937 buses. The deal reinforces the brand’s decades-long partnership with the state and its leadership position in the Indian bus segment.
With over 21,000 Ashok Leyland buses already operating in TNSTU’s fleet, this new order builds on a strong foundation of trust and reliability. The buses, equipped with iGen6 BS VI technology, will be tailored for town, mofussil, and SETC applications, combining advanced safety, comfort, and performance. Built on AIS 153-compliant chassis platforms, these vehicles comply with the latest Indian safety and performance standards, offering superior durability and ride quality.

The new Viking and SETC models are equipped with upgraded alternators and batteries to support advanced ITMS systems, Electronic Stability Control for enhanced high-speed stability, and air suspension for improved comfort. Urban and semi-low floor variants also feature automatic transmission and wheelchair ramps, ensuring inclusivity and ease of access.
As India’s largest bus manufacturer and the fourth largest globally, Ashok Leyland continues to set benchmarks in public mobility with its focus on innovation, reliability, and sustainability.
