Mercedes-Benz EQS 450 SUV Sets GUINNESS WORLD RECORD™

Mercedes-Benz EQS 450 4MATIC SUV Sets GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ Title for Greatest Temperature Change by an EV

From Desert Heat to Snow-Capped Peaks, the ‘Made-in-India’ EQS SUV Proves Its All-Terrain Electric Resilience

Mercedes-Benz India has earned yet another feather in its cap as the EQS 450 4MATIC SUV, locally assembled in India, has set a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the greatest temperature change endured by an electric production car. The record-setting journey spanned over 2,300 km, navigating from the scorching 47.5°C heat of Ranao, Rajasthan, to the freezing -3.75°C chill of Khardungla Pass, marking a staggering 51.2°C temperature variation.

The historic drive was executed by the Autocar India road test team, led by Rahul Kakkar, across a 9-day journey through cities like Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Jammu, Srinagar, Kargil, and Leh — before conquering the 18,379-ft Khardungla Pass, the world’s second-highest motorable road.

Record-Breaking Drive Stats

Built to Conquer Extremes

The EQS SUV didn’t just survive India’s harshest climates — it thrived. Thanks to a robust 122 kWh battery, dual permanently excited synchronous motors, and the intelligent 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system, the EQS 450 4MATIC puts out 360 hp and a staggering 800+ Nm of torque, capable of 0–100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds. Mercedes’ OFFROAD drive mode, coupled with adaptive AIRMATIC suspension, allowed the vehicle to easily navigate rough mountain passes like Zojila and Khardungla.

More Than Just Power

The EQS SUV blends performance with sustainability and luxury:

Leadership Speaks

“The EQS SUV’s record-breaking feat strongly underlines the readiness of our BEVs for India’s extreme conditions,” said Santosh Iyer, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India. “This world record also reinforces customer confidence in choosing sustainable, no-compromise luxury mobility.”

Hormazd Sorabjee, Editor of Autocar India, added: “This drive not only highlights the engineering excellence of the EQS but also throws light on India’s climate diversity and the urgent need for clean mobility solutions.”

Second Record, Same Legacy

This is Mercedes-Benz’s second GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the EQS range in India. In 2024, the EQS 580 4MATIC sedan covered 949 km on a single charge, earning the record for the longest journey by an EV on one charge.
