Numeros Motors Partners with IIT Bhubaneswar to Develop Rare Earth-Free EV Motor Technologies
Collaboration Aims to Drive Innovation in Sustainable, Affordable EV Components
Numeros Motors, an innovative OEM specializing in electric mobility solutions, has teamed up with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar for a pioneering two-year research initiative. The collaboration will focus on developing non-magnet, rare earth-free (RE-free) motor technologies to meet the growing demand for sustainable and affordable electric vehicles in India.

This partnership seeks to reduce reliance on rare earth materials, commonly used in traditional EV motors, by innovating local, cost-effective motor solutions. By combining IIT Bhubaneswar’s expertise in electrical engineering with Numeros Motors’ knowledge of electric drivetrains, the collaboration aims to create efficient, eco-friendly motor technologies that align with India’s clean mobility goals.
Shreyas Shibulal, Founder & CEO of Numeros Motors, emphasized, “Our partnership with IIT Bhubaneswar is a significant step toward transforming India’s electric mobility ecosystem. We believe rare earth-free motors will be a game-changer, helping reduce import dependency, lower production costs, and support India’s vision for self-reliant, sustainable EVs.”
Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar, Director of IIT Bhubaneswar, added, “This collaboration with Numeros Motors highlights our commitment to sustainable innovation and entrepreneurship in the EV sector, and we look forward to contributing to the development of cutting-edge technologies.”
The research initiative underscores the shared vision of Numeros Motors and IIT Bhubaneswar to drive forward a greener, more self-sufficient EV ecosystem, helping shape the future of electric mobility in India.
