Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) has added a major accolade to the all-new Tata Sierra’s debut chapter, with the SUV entering the India Book of Records for achieving the highest fuel efficiency in 12 hours. In a certified run conducted at NATRAX, Indore, the Sierra delivered an impressive 29.9 kmpl, surpassing the previous national benchmark.
The record attempt was executed by the Pixel Motion team, who piloted the 1.5-liter Hyperion-powered Sierra continuously from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on November 30, 2025. Apart from quick driver swaps, the SUV ran uninterrupted for the full 12-hour window. The achievement was officially validated the same day.
Important Notes
-
The fuel-efficiency and top-speed tests were conducted by expert drivers in a controlled environment.
-
TMPV strongly advises customers not to replicate such driving behaviour, and to always follow traffic rules and speed limits.
-
Customer vehicles will be electronically limited to 190 km/h, in line with Tata Motors’ stringent safety standards.
At the heart of this feat is Tata’s all-new 1.5L Hyperion petrol engine, designed for high efficiency without sacrificing refinement or everyday drivability. An advanced combustion setup, a broad torque band, and a friction-optimised architecture enabled the Sierra to maintain consistent output and fuel delivery across the entire run, demonstrating the engineering intent behind the Hyperion powertrain.

Commenting on the milestone, Mohan Savarkar, Chief Product Officer, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said:
“Setting a national efficiency record so early in the Sierra’s journey is a proud moment for us. The Hyperion engine platform was built to push the boundaries of what petrol powertrains can achieve, and this milestone validates that effort. It strengthens the Sierra’s value proposition for customers and underlines TMPV’s commitment to bringing advanced, efficient, and future-ready technologies to the market.”
In a parallel test at NATRAX, the Tata Sierra also clocked a top speed of 222 km/h under specified test conditions—further underscoring the performance capabilities of the Hyperion engine.
