Tata Motors has announced the official launch date for its all-electric Punch model in India, set for January 17. Serving as Tata’s fourth all-electric vehicle, the Punch is the maiden model built on the new Gen 2 EV architecture named acti.ev. Bookings for the Punch EV are currently open, requiring a token amount of Rs 21,000.
The Punch EV stands out in design, drawing inspiration from the Nexon EV, particularly in the front end, featuring a new full-width LED light bar, a split headlamp setup, and a distinct front bumper with a faux silver skid plate. While the side profile and rear remain largely unchanged, new alloy wheels and a dual-tone rear bumper contribute to the distinct look. Notably, the Punch EV is the first Tata electric vehicle to include a frunk.

While detailed interior views are yet to be released, significant changes are expected. The Punch EV will feature a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a digital instrument cluster, a two-spoke steering wheel, and a jeweled rotary drive selector. Teasers suggest an updated HVAC control panel with toggle switches and haptic buttons.
The top-tier Punch EV variant is set to include a range of features, such as a 360-degree camera, leatherette seats, electronic parking brake with auto hold, connected car technology, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, cruise control, sunroof, and the Arcade.ev app suite – several of these being unique in its segment.
In terms of powertrain, the Punch EV will be offered in two variants: Standard and Long Range, with expected battery capacities of 25kWh and 35kWh, respectively. The Standard variant will have a 3.3kW AC charger, while the Long Range variant will additionally offer a 7.2kW AC charger with DC fast charging capability.
Utilizing the new acti.ev modular platform, the Punch EV is projected to achieve a range between 300-600km, with an estimated range of 300-400km for this specific model. Positioned against the Citroen eC3, the Punch EV is expected to be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom), filling the gap between the Tiago EV MR and the Nexon EV MR in Tata’s electric vehicle lineup.
