Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV), a subsidiary of Tata Motors and one of India’s leading automakers, has officially re-entered the South African passenger vehicle market. The brand marked its comeback with the unveiling of four models — Harrier, Curvv, Punch, and Tiago — at a high-profile launch event at The Galleria in Sandton, Johannesburg.

The re-entry is facilitated through a strategic partnership with Motus Holdings, South Africa’s largest automotive group, ensuring robust distribution, sales, and after-sales support nationwide.

Safety, Growth, and Global Ambitions

TMPV returns to South Africa at a time when it has witnessed meteoric growth in India, scaling from 170,000 units in 2020 to over 560,000 units in 2025 — a 350% surge. True to its reputation as India’s safety pioneer, Tata offers a portfolio of cars and SUVs that carry 4- and 5-star safety ratings from Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP.

Speaking at the launch, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., said:
“Our return to South Africa is a milestone in Tata Motors’ global journey. With our new-generation vehicles — engineered with cutting-edge technology, uncompromising safety, and contemporary design — we are confident of building a strong connection with South African consumers. Partnering with Motus enables us to deliver a seamless ownership experience and contribute to the local economy.”

Motus Holdings’ Group CEO, Ockert Janse Van Rensburg, added:
“Together with Tata, we will bring South Africans a new-age range of vehicles backed by our strong distribution and after-sales expertise. This partnership is not just about cars — it’s about trust, excellence, and shaping the future of mobility here.”

A Strong Dealer Network and Local Commitment

At launch, Tata vehicles will be available through 40 dealerships nationwide, with plans to expand to 60 by 2026. Beyond sales, Tata Motors aims to support South Africa through job creation, skills training, and technician development, alongside attractive financing options via leading banks.
