The inaugural crash test outcomes from the Indian government’s Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP) have been disclosed, revealing a commendable 5-star rating for both the Tata Harrier and Safari. Initiated on December 15, the testing program recently unveiled its initial results.

The Tata Harrier and Safari achieved impressive scores, attaining 30.08/32 points for adult occupant protection (AOP) and 44.54 out of a possible 49 for child occupant protection (COP), culminating in a 5-star rating. Notably, these SUVs excelled in the side movable deformable barrier test, although the protection for the chest region in the frontal offset deformable barrier test fell short of ideal standards.

It is noteworthy that both the Harrier and Safari had previously secured a 5-star rating in Global NCAP’s crash tests, with closely aligned scores for AOP and COP.

While there is minimal disparity between the Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP evaluations, one notable difference is the maximum score achievable for AOP. Under Global NCAP, the maximum AOP score is 34 points, whereas Bharat NCAP caps it at 32 points. Despite this distinction, the crash test protocols and rating assignments between the two organizations appear largely analogous.
