The Mahindra Scorpio N has achieved a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP’s ‘SaferCarsForIndia’ initiative. However, it received a 0-star rating in the Australasian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP) test, which has a more stringent protocol requiring the fitment of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), not available in the Scorpio N.

The ANCAP protocol, distinct from GNCAP’s criteria in India, includes Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Vulnerable Road User Protection, and Safety Assists. The Scorpio N scored 44 percent in Adult Occupant Protection, 80 percent in Child Occupant Protection, 23 percent in Vulnerable Road User Protection, and 0 percent in Safety Assist.
The ANCAP tests involve offset frontal and full-width frontal crashes at 50kph, a side impact test at 60kph, and an oblique pole test at 32kph. Additionally, a far-side (passenger-side) crash and whiplash assessment are conducted.
It’s crucial to recognize that while the Mahindra Scorpio N in India and Australia shares similarities, the star ratings are not directly comparable due to the substantial differences in testing methodologies and protocols between the two countries’ NCAPs. This underscores the importance of scrutinizing safety results, considering the specific inclusions and conditions of each test, despite manufacturers emphasizing high NCAP safety scores.
