Land Rover has unveiled preliminary details and teasers for the Range Rover Electric, marking its inaugural foray into the realm of electric SUVs. The automaker asserts that the upcoming EV will deliver performance akin to its existing V8-powered flagship.

A waitlist has been initiated for the forthcoming Range Rover Electric, allowing interested individuals to secure priority for pre-orders when formal sales commence in 2024. Initially projected to open order books by year-end, the waiting list provides an early opportunity for enthusiasts to express their interest.

Scheduled for international sales in 2024, the first battery-electric Range Rover will share its foundation with the current combustion engine model, promising to be the “quietest and most refined Range Rover ever.” Built on the MLA platform designed for hybrid and electric powertrains, the electric variant retains a familiar design with some bespoke elements. It will operate on an 800V architecture, facilitating rapid charging.
While the Range Rover Electric is yet to be fully revealed, indications suggest a design continuity with its internal combustion engine counterpart. The model is positioned as a competitor to the BMW iX and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV.
Although specific performance details are pending, the electric Range Rover is expected to maintain the renowned “go-anywhere” capability of its ICE counterpart. Emphasizing towing, wading, and all-terrain capabilities, the EV aims to surpass other luxury electric SUVs, boasting the ability to wade through 850mm-deep water.

Anticipated to match the V8’s output, speculated around 530hp, the Range Rover Electric is likely to feature a twin-motor setup for enhanced all-wheel-drive capability and off-road potential. Road-testing has commenced in locations such as Sweden and Dubai, focusing on underfloor, battery durability, and thermal derating aspects.
Production of the Range Rover Electric will take place at JLR’s Solihull plant alongside existing hybrid versions. Initially utilizing third-party batteries, the model will transition to packs from the new Somerset gigafactory planned by JLR’s parent company, Tata Motors.
