Mercedes-Benz Celebrates 600,000th G-Class with All-Electric G 580, Continuing an Icon’s Legacy

A legend of the automotive world has reached another milestone. The 600,000th Mercedes-Benz G-Class rolled off the production line in Graz, Austria — a striking G 580 with EQ Technology in Obsidian Black Metallic. With zero CO₂ emissions and a combined energy consumption of 30.3‒27.7 kWh/100 km, this all-electric variant embodies the evolution of a model that has remained true to its rugged roots since 1979.
Often hailed as the best off-road vehicle in the world, the G-Class has built an enduring global fan base thanks to its unmistakable design and unmatched off-road prowess. Over the decades, Mercedes-Benz has celebrated its cult status with special and strictly limited editions. Among them, the Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s, launched last year, paid homage to the original W 460 series that defined the G-Class DNA and set the stage for its enduring success.
Personalisation has become a hallmark of the G-Class, with the MANUFAKTUR programme — introduced in 2019 — offering over a million possible combinations. Today, more than 90% of G-Class buyers opt for at least one MANUFAKTUR option, with an average of three per vehicle. The programme caters to rising demand for heritage-inspired paintwork and bespoke finishes, with customers now able to choose from up to 20,000 colour options since 2024.
From conquering the world’s toughest terrains to embracing electric mobility, the G-Class continues to set benchmarks in design, luxury, and capability, proving that even at 600,000 units, the legend remains a force to be reckoned with.
