Round 1 of JK Tyre Novice Cup & Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup Thrills Coimbatore – Anish Shetty & Bhuvan Bonu Dominate

The Kari Motor Speedway roared to life over the weekend as Round 1 of the Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup and JK Tyre Novice Cup—part of the 28th JK Tyre Racing Championship—delivered edge-of-the-seat action for motorsport fans.

In the Royal Enfield Continental GT Cup, it was all about Anish Shetty. The Hubli-born, Bengaluru-based rider was in imperious form, clinching a hat-trick of victories across Saturday and Sunday. Riding the nearly 200 kg Continental GT 650 race-prepped machines is no easy task, but Anish’s blend of fitness, experience, and raw speed left the competition trailing.

Saturday’s sunny conditions saw him set the tone, while Sunday’s changing weather failed to slow him down. The only serious challenge came from Mumbai’s Kayan Zubin Patel, with defending champion Navaneeth Kumar returning to form to grab a second-place finish in Race 3. After Round 1, the points table has Anish leading with 30 points, followed by Kayan (19) and Navaneeth (12).

Among the amateur racers in the GT Cup, Bryan Nicholas from Pondicherry was the class act, sweeping all three races to lead with 36 points, ahead of Johring Warisa (27) and Kabir Sahoch (18).

In the JK Tyre Novice Cup, 15-year-old Bhuvan Bonu from Bengaluru was simply untouchable. Trained in the USA, Bonu showcased precision driving and blistering pace, making light work of the competition. His dominance was such that, at times, it seemed he was in a different league altogether. “I kept getting better and better. I enjoyed the weekend,” he said post-race.

For rivals Ojas Surve and Abhijit Vadavalli, it was a weekend spent chasing Bonu’s tail-lights. The final race on Sunday was incident-filled, but Bonu’s control and composure sealed a memorable clean sweep to start his championship campaign in style.

With both two-wheel and four-wheel action setting the tone, the 2025 JK Tyre Racing Championship’s opening round has already raised expectations for even closer battles in the rounds to come.
