Billion Electric Mobility (BillionE), India’s leading E-Mobility-as-a-Service (eMaaS) platform, in collaboration with Hindalco Industries’ Birla Copper Division, has inaugurated Gujarat’s first heavy-duty electric freight corridor. The 160 km Dahej–Asoj route marks a major step toward sustainable industrial logistics in the state.
The corridor will initially deploy 10 Ashok Leyland electric trucks with 55-ton capacity, with five more trucks rolling out within three months. This initiative enables zero-emission transport for industrial cargo, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and supporting India’s energy security.
Sanjeev Kulkarni, CEO of BillionE Mobility, said, “This heavy-duty electric freight corridor represents a transformation in industrial logistics. By deploying electric trucks, we demonstrate that large-scale goods transport can be efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective. Our partnership with Hindalco is a key step toward a nationwide zero-emission freight network.”
Bishnu Agarwal, Functional Head of F&C Copper at Hindalco Industries, added, “Logistics is the backbone of our business. Transitioning to EVs reduces our carbon footprint while improving efficiency with quieter, low-maintenance, and future-ready vehicles. Sustainability is a business advantage, not just compliance.”
BillionE will use ChargeZone’s charging network along the corridor, with stations at Karjan, Bharuch, and other strategic points. Plans are underway to expand electric freight transport to Vapi, Daman, and Silvassa, further strengthening Gujarat’s zero-emission logistics ecosystem.
