Ampere Nexus Becomes First EV to Conquer Shipki La Pass at 13,200 ft
Sets India Book of Records milestone, rides within 200 metres of the LOC in a show of EV endurance and national pride

Ampere Nexus, the flagship electric scooter from Greaves Electric Mobility, has etched its name into the history books by becoming the first-ever electric two-wheeler to scale Shipki La Pass in Himachal Pradesh. Standing at a daunting 13,200 ft in the Kinnaur region and just 200 metres from the Line of Control, this achievement also secures a coveted entry in the India Book of Records.
Undertaken as part of the Indian Army’s Border Tourism Initiative — spearheaded by the Tripeak Brigade under the Surya Command — the expedition showcased the Ampere Nexus’s ability to thrive far beyond city streets. The ride was flagged off from Chandigarh on August 9, 2025, and covered over 425 km of steep gradients, hairpin bends, and rugged Himalayan terrain across Shimla, Reckong Peo, Pooh, and the breathtaking Kinnaur Valley before the final ascent to Shipki La. Two Ampere Nexus scooters completed the three-day journey, proving that electric mobility can perform even in some of India’s harshest conditions.
Since its 2024 debut — famously marked by a run from Kashmir to Kanyakumari — the Ampere Nexus has been steadily building a record-breaking résumé. This latest feat underscores the scooter’s engineering ethos: Engineered to Outperform, Outlast, and Outshine. On arrival at Shipki La, the riders were greeted by Indian Army jawans. They participated in a flag-hoisting ceremony to mark India’s 79th Independence Day, blending technological achievement with a moment of national pride.
The India Book of Records officially recognised the accomplishment with the citation:
“First Electric 2-Wheeler to Reach Shipki La Pass – The record for the First Electric 2-Wheeler to reach Shipki La Pass was set by Ampere Nexus, supporting the Indian Army’s border tourism initiative. The ride started from Chandigarh on August 9, 2025, and concluded on August 12 at Shipki La Pass (13,200 ft), showcasing the endurance and performance of the EV scooter.”
Vikas Singh, Managing Director, Greaves Electric Mobility, said:
“From conquering Kashmir-to-Kanyakumari to now scaling one of the country’s most challenging high passes, the Ampere Nexus proves what it was designed for — to Outperform, Outlast, and Outshine. This is more than a record; it’s proof that Indian EV technology can go the distance, from the heart of our cities to the nation’s farthest borders. Doing this while supporting the Indian Army’s Border Tourism initiative makes it even more special.”
With its robust performance, adaptable design, and ease of charging, the Ampere Nexus has reinforced the message that sustainable mobility isn’t just an urban affair. It’s ready to take on the high passes, remote valleys, and every last mile of India — electrifying the road to a cleaner future.
