Mahindra Group Celebrates 80 Years of Legacy

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., one of India’s most diversified and respected business groups, today celebrated its 80th Founders’ Day — honouring the vision of its founders, J.C. Mahindra and K.C. Mahindra, who established the company on October 2, 1945, coinciding with Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary.

Eight decades ago, Mahindra debuted with a bold advertisement in The Times of India, calling on people of all communities to join a company built on fairness, opportunity, and courage — a progressive message during a time of war and uncertainty.

Reflecting on the milestone, Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group, said:
“Eighty years ago, the Mahindra Group was born with a crystal-clear purpose: to help build our nascent nation. Our founders pledged to develop industry, create livelihoods, and enable communities to rise. Today, we have the opportunity to renew that pledge and propel India towards technological self-reliance and global respect.”

Dr. Anish Shah, Group CEO & MD, Mahindra Group, added:
“Our founders were ahead of their time. Their first ad did not speak of profits but of principles — entrepreneurship, integrity, diversity, and optimism for India’s future. Eighty years on, those principles still guide us as we innovate and drive positive change across the world.”

From assembling the first Willys jeeps in post-war India to becoming a global federation of companies across mobility, technology, finance, hospitality, and renewable energy, Mahindra has stayed true to its “Rise” philosophy — enabling others to rise while it grows. Today, the Group operates in over 100 countries, impacting millions through sustainability, diversity, skilling, and rural empowerment.

Mahindra’s social initiatives — such as Kaabil (women’s livelihood empowerment) and Nanhi Kali (education for underprivileged girls) — remain central to its purpose-driven growth model.

As it enters its ninth decade, Mahindra reaffirms its commitment to building an inclusive, entrepreneurial, and sustainable future while aspiring to position India as a global manufacturing hub.
